How to Empty a Coke Can (Professionally)

  1. Get an icepick:

  2. Rotate the tab 90 degrees as shown:

  3. Use the icepick to punch a small (1mm) hole at position 1 or at position 2.
My preference is to use position 1, if possible.
Make sure the hole can be covered up by the original tab position.

  4. After punching a small hole, turn the can upside down and shake it.
Leave it in a sink and wait for liquid to drain.

  5. When can is almost empty, run hot tap water on the can.
Heat causes the air inside to expand, thus forcing out the remaining liquid.
When the can is empty, you will hear air whistling out of the can.

  6. DO NOT run cold water on the hot can.
Cold water causes air inside to contract and the can to implode!

  7. The remaining steps show you how to clean the can.
While the can is still hot, put a small amount of warm clean water on top.
When the air inside cools, the clean water will be sucked into the can.

  8. After the water has been sucked into the can, shake it to clean the inside.
Then turn it upside down and run hot tap water on it again.
The air inside will once again heat up and force out the liquid.

  9. Repeat the previous two (2) steps to thoroughly clean the can.

  10. Let the can dry for a few days, then rotate tab back to original position.
